Montecristo,
one of the most famous brands in the world, is made today in the Dominican
Republic and Nicaragua, although it is still made in Cuba as well.
The
Montecristo White Series is manufactured by Altadis USA, at its Tabacalera de
Garcia factory, located in La Romana, Dominican Republic, considered the
largest premium cigar factory in the world. This series is one of the most
emblematic of the brand, and since its release in the market, it has been an
important part of many humidors.
The blend
uses a beautiful hand-selected Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper harmonized with a
Nicaraguan binder and a combination of the finest Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers.
The White Series was made to respond to the desire of the followers of
Montecristo, to have a cigar with a soft-medium intensity, capable of offering
them a creamier smoke, but that would remain within the standards of the abundant
and rich flavor of the brand.
The cigars
have a rather attractive appearance and, although the wrapper is quite smooth,
it is not without veins and the occasional bump; aromas of nuts, wood, and
raisins emanate from it in abundance. The large amount of smoke it produces has
a creamy texture that is smooth on the palate with a fairly crisp and moderate
finish. This combination is what has attracted all types of smokers to the
Montecristo White Series, perhaps the most requested among the many that
Montecristo offers.
It is sold
and distributed in the US through Altadis U.S.A., a subsidiary of Tabacalera
USA, which, in turn, is owned by British tobacco giant Imperial Brands PLC.
Behind the making of Montecristo cigars, Altadis luxury brand, there are
experienced masters with full knowledge of the market, the industry, and the
reputation of a classic brand that, like Montecristo, demands high-quality
standards to continue enjoying a recognition that is almost 100 years old.
It is
interesting to note that non-Cuban versions of Montecristo have been gaining
the approval of both specialized magazines and consumers in the United States,
so it is easy to predict that, if one-day Cuban cigars enter the country again,
they will meet a tough battle for the market that may be difficult for them to
win.
