Dutch
Masters is a well-known cigar brand in the United States. They are manufactured
in Puerto Rico using modern production techniques alongside traditional methods
to ensure quality. Founded in 1911, Dutch Masters is one of the oldest cigar
brands in the U.S. and has maintained its popularity for over a century.
Brief
History:
The Dutch
Masters brand was launched by the Consolidated Cigar Corporation in 1911. The
name and image of the brand are inspired by the old Dutch master painters of
the Golden Age, such as Rembrandt. In fact, the classic Dutch Masters packaging
features the famous painting "Syndics of the Drapers' Guild" by
Rembrandt. This oil painting on canvas, executed in 1662, measures 1.91 meters
high and 2.79 meters wide and is housed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Consolidated
Cigar Corporation was acquired by Altadis USA in 1999, and in 2008, Altadis USA
was purchased by Imperial Brands. Today, Dutch Masters is one of the leading
cigar brands of Altadis USA.
Types
and Varieties:
This
popular brand offers a wide range of products, from more traditional cigars
like Palma, President, and Corona Deluxe, to more modern and flavored varieties
such as cigarillos and mini cigarillos, available in various fruity flavors.
Dutch
Masters uses a blend of premium Dominican, Cuban, Honduran, and other origin
tobaccos for its cigars. The wrappers are typically made of natural leaf, which
enhances the flavor and provides a smoother smoking experience. They are
available in versions with and without a tip.
It is
especially known for its small cigars, which are smaller and thinner than
traditional cigars and are designed for a quicker smoking experience. They come
in a wide variety of flavors and wrappers, including natural tobaccos and added
flavors such as grape, honey, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and many more.
These flavors are added to natural leaf wrappers or processed tobacco wrappers.
Dutch
Masters Palma:
These are probably the most iconic cigars from Dutch Masters. Standard-sized
(corona) with a natural leaf wrapper, they have a slightly sweet flavor with
notes of wood and earth, complemented by a creamy note from the natural leaf
wrapper.
Dutch
Masters President:
These cigars are longer than the Palma, providing a more extended smoking
experience. They are known for their slow burn and offer a fuller flavor, with
earthy notes, hints of nuts, and a touch of spices.
Dutch
Masters Corona Deluxe:
These are slender, corona-type cigars with a balanced flavor profile featuring
subtle hints of sweetness and a light pure tobacco undertone. Corona may be
Dutch Masters' greatest achievement to date, featuring very smooth Cuban seed
tobacco, a mild body, and an Indonesian wrapper.
Dutch
Masters Cigarillos and Mini Cigarillos: These are smaller than traditional cigars and
are designed for a quicker smoking experience. They are the brand's most
popular products due to their convenient size and wide range of flavors,
including Grape Fusion, Berry Fusion, Honey Fusion, Vanilla, Chocolate, Wine,
and Sweets.
The brand
is highly appreciated by occasional smokers looking for a lighter, more
aromatic cigar, as well as by more experienced smokers who appreciate quality
tobacco blends.
Dutch
Masters has maintained its popularity over the years not only because of its
quality but also because of its affordable price. It is a brand that has been
widely promoted in popular culture, especially in music and urban communities.
This connection to popular culture, along with its distinctive visual identity,
has contributed to its longevity and market position.
